BJP Takes Action to Boost Voter Turnout in South Mumbai Amidst Concerns

Mumbai, 8th May 2024: In response to the potential low voter turnout in South Mumbai, the BJP has initiated efforts to encourage residents to prioritize voting on May 20. Former BJP Corporator Makarand Narwekar highlighted concerns about residents from upscale areas like Colaba and Cuffe Parade being away on pre-planned trips during the voting period.

To address this issue, the BJP has appealed to housing societies and complexes, urging members to remain in the city on May 20. Additionally, Narwekar has reached out to travel agents in South Mumbai, requesting their cooperation in offering discounts and waivers on cancellation and rescheduling fees for those who have already made travel arrangements.

Narwekar emphasized the historical trend of low voter turnout in South Mumbai and stressed the importance of increasing participation this time. He called upon travel agents and tour operators to discourage travel on May 20 and incentivize voters with special post-voting holiday discounts and lenient cancellation policies.

In his efforts to mobilize residents, Narwekar delivered letters to Colaba Court housing society and Tushar Travels, urging them to support the cause by facilitating voter participation and accommodating rescheduling requests.

Political analysts note that the challenge of low voter turnout in South Mumbai is compounded by the timing of the election falling during the summer vacation season. With May 20 being a Monday and families already having made travel plans, there are concerns about achieving higher participation rates, particularly amid the current political landscape marked by competition between various parties.
