Businessman Looted By Fake ED Officials

Mumbai, 24th January 2023: A gang has extorted crores from a businessman in Zaveri Bazar by pretending to be ED officials. Posing as ED officials, the thieves seized Rs 25 lakh from the shop. Three kilos of gold were also seized. The price of this gold according to the market price was Rs 1.70 crore. After robbing the shop, the accused escaped in broad daylight.

After this incident, there has been unrest in Zaveri Bazaar. Police are searching for the accused through CCTV footage. The police have registered a case against four unidentified accused under sections 394, 506(2) and 120 (b) of the Indian Penal Code. Two of these accused have been arrested by Mumbai’s LT Marg police.

According to sources, yesterday (January 23), the thieves broke into the businessman’s office posing as fake ED officers. They first took away the mobile phones of all the employees. It is being reported that an employee was also handcuffed at this time. Interestingly, just yesterday BIS (The Bureau of Indian Standards) raided jewellers’ shops all over Maharashtra. These raids were also held in Zaveri Bazar. The raids were conducted to check Hallmark jewellery. 2.75 kg of gold was seized from Jhaveri Bazar alone. The cost of which is said to be one and a half crores.
