Eleven Arrested in Rs 8.5 Lakh Cyber Fraud Targeting Mumbai Senior Citizen.

Mumbai, 8th February 2025: Eleven individuals have been arrested for allegedly orchestrating a cyber fraud scheme in which a 60-year-old man was deceived into investing ₹8.5 lakh with promises of high stock market returns, Dongri police reported on Friday.
Investigations revealed that the accused had links with cybercrime masterminds based in Nepal and Cambodia. They allegedly facilitated fraudulent transactions by supplying 150 bank accounts to funnel money obtained from multiple victims, police stated.
“Some of the arrested individuals used their bank accounts, while others acquired accounts from third parties in exchange for money. The gang has so far provided nearly 150 accounts to cybercriminals, earning crores in commissions,” an officer disclosed.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Gautam Gopal Das, Srinivasan Raju Rao, Omkar Yuvraj Thorat, Shrikant Balasaheb Salunkhe, Ojas Chaudhary, Akash Atmaram Dusane, Dinesh Hiraman Tayde, Mohammad Rajik Sadiq Patel, Sagar Dhiraj Kolhe, Harshal Prakash More, and Amit Uttam Mitkar.
According to police, the victim, a South Mumbai resident, was deceived into downloading a fraudulent mobile application that falsely claimed to offer stock market investments with lucrative returns. Trusting the scheme, he transferred ₹8.56 lakh through the app between July 15 and 25, 2024.
Following the complaint, investigators traced the bank accounts where the money had been deposited, leading to the identification and arrest of Das and Rao on December 12. Further investigation exposed the involvement of nine other suspects, who were subsequently apprehended from Satara, Pune, Bhusawal, and Goa.
Authorities have confiscated five laptops, 16 mobile phones, a Jaguar, and a Mahindra Mazzaro car from the accused.
“Evidence suggests that Dusane, Tayde, and Patel travelled to Cambodia and Nepal to meet with the masterminds behind the scam. They earned crores in commissions, which they used to purchase luxury cars and real estate,” an officer revealed.
