Enforcement Directorate Registers New Case Against Jet Airways Promoter Naresh Goyal

Mumbai, 20th July 2023: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action against Jet Airways promoter Naresh Goyal and other accused by registering a new case. On Wednesday, ED conducted raids at eight locations in Mumbai and Delhi, including places connected to Goyal, as part of its investigation. An ED official confirmed the registration of the new case against Goyal and stated that search operations were carried out in connection with it.

The case was registered following a complaint lodged by Canara Bank with the CBI on November 23, 2022. The complaint accused the accused of various charges, including cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal treachery, and breach of criminal law. Canara Bank’s corporate office at Cuffe Parade had provided a loan facility to Jet Airways, and the alleged crimes took place between April 1, 2009, and June 5, 2019.

Subsequently, on June 5, 2019, the bank declared Jet Airways’ account insolvent, leading to a loss of Rs. 538 crore 62 lakhs for the bank. The complaint further alleges that the funds provided by the bank were diverted to other undisclosed sources, prompting suspicion of fraudulent activities.

As part of the investigation, a case has also been registered against an unidentified government officer who is suspected of aiding the accused in their actions.

The ED’s search operations at multiple locations in Mumbai and Delhi signify the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing efforts to uncover any financial irregularities associated with Jet Airways and its promoter Naresh Goyal. Further developments in this case are awaited as the investigation progresses.
