Extended Power Cuts in Navi Mumbai: Transformers and Cables Malfunction Amidst Downpour

Navi Mumbai, 23rd July 2024: Parts of Navi Mumbai were hit by significant power outages on Sunday and Monday, attributed to heavy rainfall that led to malfunctions in transformers, feeder boxes, and underground cables. Areas including Rabale, Airoli, Digha, Ghansoli, and Turbhe experienced extended power cuts, with some lasting up to 24 hours from Saturday night.

Residents faced numerous disruptions due to frequent power outages, exacerbated by the continuous downpour. MSEDCL officials reported that multiple issues arose from the heavy rain, but power was fully restored by 1:30 pm on Monday.

Gaurav Patil from Ghansoli described the situation, “The power went out on Saturday night and was only restored by Sunday night, making it a full 24 hours. Our weekend was disrupted, and with the water supply also affected, we had to rely on outside food for two days. The extended outage was particularly tough on children and the elderly.” Sameer Tupe from Airoli also shared his frustration, saying, “We endured intermittent power disruptions for over 24 hours, which was quite challenging.”

MSEDCL officials explained that their field engineers had to identify and address the problems, with the main issue originating from the Kalwa dispatch station. They rerouted the supply and repaired the affected lines to restore power.
