India’s First Case Of Coronavirus XE Variant Detected In Mumbai

Mumbai, 06 April 2022: The new variant of the coronavirus XE has reached India. The first case has been detected in Mumbai today. A total of 376 samples were taken, in which the infection of the XE variant of corona was confirmed in one patient. This variant was first reported from the United Kingdom.

BMC in its latest sero survey has said that one case each of XE variant and Kappa variant has been confirmed in the city. The report said that a total of 230 people’s reports were sent for sero survey. Out of these, 21 people have been admitted to the hospital. No one required oxygen or intensive monitoring.

Regarding the XE variant, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that it is made up of two strains BA.1 and BA.2 of the Omicron variant. Its first case was found in the UK and it has been named the XE variant. The WHO has feared that this variant may prove to be the fastest spreading.

There is a steady decrease in corona cases in India and the number of active cases has come down rapidly. In such a situation, now the discovery of the XE variant is going to raise concerns.

Significantly, in countries like China and South Korea, Corona is once again raising its head. There is a lockdown situation in Shanghai, which is called the economic capital of China and millions of tests are being done in a day.

According to the estimates of IIT Kanpur, the fourth wave of corona infection may knock in India by June 2022. However, experts say that vaccination has been done on a large scale in the country. In such a situation, the new wave of corona is not expected to be as deadly as before.
