Mumbai, 15th January 2024: Commencing today, IndiGo, the renowned airline headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana, has achieved a historic milestone by launching its inaugural direct flight connecting Mumbai and Ayodhya. This marks a significant expansion in the airline’s network, establishing enhanced connectivity between two major cities.

The maiden flight, departing from Mumbai at 12:30 pm, touched down in Ayodhya at 2:45 pm, symbolizing a strategic move in the airline’s expansion plan. The return journey from Ayodhya commenced at 3:15 pm, landing back in Mumbai at 5:40 pm. The schedule reflects IndiGo’s commitment to providing convenient and direct connections for travellers.

This development follows IndiGo’s earlier success in initiating flights between Ayodhya and Delhi on December 13, strategically aligning with the upcoming inauguration of the Ram temple. In line with enhanced connectivity goals, Air India Express is set to commence operations between Delhi and Ayodhya on December 30.

Expanding its reach further, Air India Express is gearing up to introduce direct flights connecting Ayodhya with two major metropolitan cities – Bengaluru and Kolkata – starting January 17. These flights aim to provide efficient and direct travel options for passengers, facilitating increased connectivity.

IndiGo, playing a pioneering role in this expansion, initiated flights between Ayodhya’s Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport and Delhi on December 13, aligning strategically with the BJP government’s plan to inaugurate the Ram temple.

The Ayodhya airport, now named ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhyadham,’ is set to emerge as a crucial gateway to the temple town. This renaming reflects the evolving status of Ayodhya as a major international pilgrimage centre. The estimated cost for the first phase of the airport’s construction stands at approximately Rs 1,450 crore.
