Jayashree Patil, Wife of Late Congress Leader Madan Patil, Joins BJP Ahead of Maharashtra Civic Polls

Sangli, 17th June 2025: Jayashree Patil, Vice-Chairperson of Sangli District Central Co-operative Bank and a prominent leader from the Madan Patil group, has announced her decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. The announcement was made on Monday, signaling a significant shift in local political dynamics.
Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, who visited Patil’s residence to welcome her, stated that her induction into the BJP would not only impact Sangli district but also have repercussions across Maharashtra’s political landscape. He assured that Patil and her supporters would be given due respect within the party, highlighting that two positions in the District Planning Committee have been reserved—one for Patil herself and another for a nominee of her choice.
Jayashree Patil had previously been suspended from the Congress party after contesting the assembly elections as an independent, following a rebellion. With the municipal elections approaching, she consulted her supporters before making the move. Patil had considered both Ajit Pawar’s NCP and the BJP as options for her next political step, ultimately choosing the BJP. Her formal induction into the party is scheduled for Wednesday in Mumbai, in the presence of BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
During the meeting, Minister Patil emphasized the importance of Patil’s entry, noting her decision was made without any conditions or demands. Jayashree Patil cited her dissatisfaction with the Congress, specifically the party’s failure to honor its commitments, as the reason for her earlier rebellion and current decision. She expressed confidence that the BJP would provide respectful treatment to her and her supporters, which was a key factor in her joining the party.
