Jogeshwari Terminus Project by Western Railway Making Steady Progress, 40% Work Completed

Mumbai, 11th January 2025: The Jogeshwari Terminus, a key project by Western Railway (WR), is making steady progress with 40% of the work completed. Set to open by September, the new terminus is designed to reduce the pressure on Mumbai’s busy railway stations, including Dadar, Mumbai Central, and Bandra Terminus. The terminus will feature a 600-meter island platform capable of handling trains with up to 24 coaches.

This facility will allow two trains to run simultaneously between the Ram Mandir and Jogeshwari suburban stations, boosting operational efficiency. It will also become a hub for premium services such as the Tejas Express and Vande Bharat trains, with WR planning to shift 12 services from Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus to Jogeshwari.

The terminus is expected to ease overcrowding at current stations and introduce additional services to meet the city’s growing transport needs. Its strategic location, accessible from the Western Express Highway, will provide passengers with a smooth travel experience.

In another development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is undertaking a major expansion of the Western Express Highway (WEH). The widening project between Mohan Gokhale Road and Aarey Check Naka in Goregaon will increase the road’s width from 45 meters to 57-61 meters, improving traffic flow on one of the city’s most congested routes.

The project will involve the removal of around 300 illegal structures, including residential buildings and a tea shop. Affected residents will receive compensation under the BMC’s Removal of Bottleneck Policy, a process previously successful during the S.V. Road widening. This expansion aims to ease congestion and enhance the overall commuting experience as the city’s population and traffic continue to grow.
