Maharashtra Launches ‘Drug-Free Mumbai’ Campaign, Thousands Take Anti-Drug Pledge
Mumbai, 30th July 2026: The Maharashtra government on Thursday launched the year-long ‘Drug-Free Mumbai’ campaign with a large-scale anti-drug pledge ceremony at the NSCI Dome in Worli. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the event, which saw participation from students, government officials, law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals and civil society representatives.
Sharing moments from the ceremony on social media, Chief Minister Fadnavis said the campaign aims to build a united movement against drug abuse by encouraging citizens, particularly the youth, to pledge their commitment towards a drug-free society.
The initiative has been launched as part of the state government’s broader efforts to curb substance abuse through awareness, prevention, de-addiction and rehabilitation programmes. According to the government, the campaign will run throughout the year and include public outreach activities, educational programmes in schools and colleges, community engagement drives and coordination between various government departments and enforcement agencies.
Speaking at the launch, Fadnavis stressed the need for collective action to address the growing challenge of drug abuse and urged citizens to actively support the campaign. Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha also appealed to young people and the public to participate in the initiative and spread awareness about the harmful effects of narcotics.
The ‘Drug-Free Mumbai’ campaign is expected to focus on early intervention, awareness generation and strengthening support systems for individuals affected by substance abuse, while promoting coordination between educational institutions, healthcare providers, law enforcement agencies and local communities.
