Maharashtra Pollution Control Board Reluctant To Provide Information Regarding Deteriorating Air Quality In Thane

Thane, 8th February 2023: Two months ago, the air quality index calculated by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board revealed that the air in the cities of Ulhasnagar, Dombivli, Kalyan, Ambernath along with the cities of Thane is polluted. At present, the data from the Central Pollution Control Board website and some private websites that measure air quality have revealed that the air quality of Thane district is continuously deteriorating. It has been observed that the air quality index (AQI) of almost all the cities in the Thane district is more than 150 during the last two to three days.

The air quality index of Mumbai as well as Navi Mumbai cities is repeatedly coming to light. It has been seen that the situation in Mumbai city is mostly serious. In the same manner, three months ago in Thane district, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, and Kalyan, It was reported that the air quality in the cities of Dombivli has deteriorated. In addition to the industrial areas of the cities, it was revealed that the air quality is poor in the residential areas as well. The air quality of the district is deteriorating day by day due to the increasing number of vehicles in the district, the pollution caused by it, the hazardous gases coming out from the factories, and the construction going on day and night. Due to this, the air in various cities is unsuitable for citizens to breathe as per the quality index. So the quality of the air which is frequently deteriorating is now becoming dangerous for the health of the citizens and due to this, the citizens have to face various respiratory problems. Due to this, environment lovers, as well as citizens, are now demanding that the government and local administration take some concrete measures to prevent air pollution.

According to the information obtained from the website of the Central Pollution Control Board, the air quality index in Kalyan-Dombivli and nearby towns was 194 on Tuesday and 184 on Wednesday. The quality index of Thane city is 174 on Tuesday and 199 on Wednesday. In this, the quality index in the area of three hands is 161. Along with this, according to the information obtained from the private website Air Quality Index, the air quality index of Ulhasnagar and Ambernath cities has been recorded as 167 on Tuesday. As the air quality index of this method in the residential areas of the district is affecting the health condition of the citizens.

Welfare Department of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, the air quality index measuring machines have been installed at Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar. Even after contacting the officials of the department continuously for two days, no information or response was given.

100 to 200 – Dangerous for children, asthma and heart patients
