Kalwa, 13th August 2023: A distressing situation has cast a shadow over Thane municipal corporaton run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, revealing a harrowing tale of chaos and neglect. Shockingly, reports indicate that a staggering 17 patients succumbed to their ailments in the span of a single night.
Distraught relatives of the deceased have come forward with alarming allegations of inadequate treatment and gross mismanagement within the hospital’s walls.
The incident unfolded on Friday, as grief-stricken family members of the patients made startling claims that the lives of five individuals were cut short due to a lack of timely medical intervention. Accusations have surfaced, pointing to an apparent dearth of attending physicians and a troubling delay in administering crucial medications to patients in need.
Expressing outrage over these distressing events, Jitendra Awad, an influential leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and a prominent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), voiced his profound displeasure.
The devastating toll paints a grim picture of the deteriorating situation, with 17 lives tragically lost within the confines of the hospital. The victims comprised 13 individuals who were under intensive care, while four others were receiving treatment in the general ward.
Hospital authorities have acknowledged the unsettling reality, disclosing that among those who perished were patients who had arrived from private healthcare facilities at the eleventh hour, as well as elderly individuals over the age of 80.
The closure of the civil hospital has exacerbated the challenges faced by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. With the influx of patients from various regions within Thane district, the institution grapples with an overwhelming scarcity of medical personnel and essential resources. Tragically, on 10th August an additional five fatalities, prompting MLA Jitendra Awad and representatives of other political parties to conduct an onsite inspection, seeking answers.
Startling revelations have emerged, indicating that the heart-wrenching toll of 17 lives occurred between the hours of 10:30 PM and 8:30 AM. This shocking escalation has ignited a surge of anger and anguish among the families of the deceased, who now grapple with the unthinkable loss of their loved ones.
Only a few days prior to this tragic incident, MLA Jitendra Awhad took to social media to express his concerns and criticism of the hospital administration. Awhad’s visit to the hospital was met with profound shock and disbelief as he bore witness to the dire circumstances within its walls.
