Maharashtra Students in Third to Seventh Grades to Undergo Periodic Assessment Tests from April 2-4

Pune, 7th March 2024: In the academic year 2023-24, Periodic Assessment Tests (PAT) will be conducted for students in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh grades across government, private aided, and local government schools in Maharashtra. The examinations are scheduled to take place from April 2 to 4 and will cover the subjects of First Language, Mathematics, and Third Language.

It’s important to note that the PAT does not apply to the fifth and eighth grades, as separate annual examinations will be conducted for these classes. The PATs aim to assess and evaluate the student’s understanding and proficiency in the specified subjects, providing valuable insights into their academic progress.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has conveyed this information through a press release. Thus far, one cumulative assessment test has been conducted, and it has been clarified that since the second composite evaluation encompasses the subjects of first language, mathematics, and third language for the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh grades, the remaining subjects’ question papers are to be prepared and evaluated by the schools at their discretion.

Starting this year, annual examinations for the fifth and eighth grades will be conducted separately. Consequently, the PAT 2 exam designed for these grades will not be applicable. The annual examination for the fifth and eighth grades will be based on the syllabus of the second semester, covering subjects such as first language, second language, third language, mathematics, science, and social science. Schools are responsible for preparing the question papers for this examination, with the option to utilize sample question papers and constitution tables provided by SCERT on the website as a reference.

In the case of students who do not pass the examination or a particular subject, they are required to undergo a re-examination within a month after the release of the annual examination results, with additional supplementary guidance provided. This approach aims to ensure a thorough assessment of a student’s academic performance and provide necessary support for improvement.
