Man Arrested for Riding on BMW Bonnet in Mumbai’s Shivaji Chowk

Mumbai, 28th May 2024: In Mumbai, a man was apprehended after a video circulated widely on social media, depicting him reclining on the bonnet of a BMW driven by a 17-year-old boy. Authorities revealed on Monday that the boy’s father was also taken into custody.

The viral footage captured Subham Matalia, identified as the man in question, sprawled on the BMW’s bonnet while the teenager navigated the vehicle through the bustling streets of Shivaji Chowk in Kalyan, Mumbai.

Onlookers, including pedestrians and motorists who recorded the incident, were astounded by the spectacle as Matalia luxuriated on the bonnet, legs extended, during the ride.

The BMW involved is registered under the teenager’s father’s name. Both Matalia, aged 21, and the father of the young driver have been arrested by the Kalyan Police, with ongoing investigations into the incident.

This occurrence comes amid heightened public outcry following an accident involving a Porsche operated by another 17-year-old boy, which resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals in Pune.

Law enforcement authorities assert that the teenager involved, the son of a prominent builder in Pune, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Following public outrage over the swift bail granted to the teenager, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) intervened, remanding the accused to a juvenile remand home for 14 days, until June 5. The minor’s father has also been placed under police custody for further investigation.
