Mumbai, 28th January 2025: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UK government to expedite the expansion of Mumbai’s Metro network, as announced on Monday.

The deal was brokered with the help of the UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) and Crossrail International (CI). The partnership, officially announced during the World Economic Forum in Davos, aims to create a state-of-the-art, integrated transport system for Mumbai.

As per an MMRDA statement, the collaboration will focus on key initiatives, including enhancing intermodal connectivity, improving first- and last-mile accessibility, and driving digital advancements in the transport sector.

The MoU also highlights the importance of global knowledge sharing, particularly through research and innovation initiatives between Indian and UK academic institutions.

At present, MMRDA is working on a 337-km Metro network, with approximately 59 km already in operation, including sections of the underground metro.
