Mumbai: BMC Deep Cleaning Drive Yields Significant Results: 1300 Tonnes of Debris and 183 Tonnes of Garbage Removed

Mumbai, 31st December 2023: In the ongoing Deep Cleaning Drive by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai, a remarkable amount of debris and garbage has been removed. From December 1 to December 30, 2023, a total of 1300 tonnes of debris and 183 tonnes of garbage were collected across various administrative divisions (wards) of BMC. The cleaning initiative covered an extensive 22,277 kilometres of roads.

 

This concerted effort involved the participation of 5000 workers and employees, utilizing 508 vehicles, including JCBs, Dumpers, Compactors, Garbage Collectors, Water Tankers, Firex Machines, Misting Machines, and other updated systems. The campaign was conducted under the leadership of Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr. Sudhakar Shinde.

 

To further intensify the cleanliness efforts, a ‘Maha Swachhta Abhiyan’ is scheduled on December 31, 2023, at ten prominent locations in Mumbai. The campaign will commence at 9 am from the Gateway of India, with the honourable Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurating the initiative. Prominent dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Guardian Ministers, and other officials, will also be present.

 

The citizens of Mumbai have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cleanliness campaign, which includes extensive cleaning in corners, small alleys, and other areas, along with garbage collection. The ‘Sampurna Swachhata Mohim’ initiative, launched on December 3, 2023, under the guidance of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has contributed significantly to improving the cleanliness and hygiene of the city.

 

The comprehensive efforts of BMC, led by Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal and Dr. Sudhakar Shinde, have yielded substantial results in creating a cleaner and healthier environment for the residents of Mumbai.
