Mumbai: BMC Hammer On 17 Unauthorized Shops In Mulund

Mulund, 4th March 2023: Mumbai Municipal Corporation ‘T’ Division Office has taken action against unauthorized constructions outside Mulund (West) Railway Station on SVP road and the JSD road. During this operation, the Municipal Corporation demolished 17 unauthorized shops on a single day. This action, which has been pending for the last 20 years, was done under the guidance of Devidas Kshirsagar, Deputy Commissioner of ‘Circle 6’ of Mumbai Municipal Corporation, and Chakrapani Alle, Assistant Commissioner of ‘T’ Division Office.

17 unauthorized constructions and shops in an area of 200 square meters outside the Mulund (West) railway station were demolished as per the order of the High Court. During this operation, a public toilet in the middle of the shops was cracked. Considering the safety of the citizens, this toilet was demolished. In the presence of the ‘T’ division office and road department engineers, employees of various departments, and workers, these unauthorized constructions were razed with the help of JCB and dumper. This action was taken under tight police security.

Chakrapani Alley said that the construction of a drain, footpath and widening of the road is proposed to prevent encroachment at this place again. This action was pending for many years. Earlier, the city civil court issued a notice to the encroachment holders as per the order passed on 29th February 2020.

The shopkeepers challenged this notice issued by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. However, due to Covid-19 and this matter being sub judice, the proposal to demolish the encroachment was proposed. The City Civil Court on 23rd January 2023 and the High Court on 16th February 2023 dismissed the petition of the encroachment holders.
