Mumbai: BMC Rolls Out ‘iNCOVACC’ Nasal Vaccine As Booster Dose For Citizens Above 60 Years

Mumbai, 28th April 2023: Starting from today, Mumbai Municipal Corporation will provide the ‘iNCOVACC’ nasal vaccine as a booster dose to citizens aged 60 and over who have received their second dose of Covishield or Covaxin at least six months ago.

The vaccine will be administered at 24 centers throughout the city. The state government clarified that the iNCOVACC vaccine is only available as a booster dose for Covishield or Covaxin, and not for any other vaccine.

India began a nationwide Corona preventive vaccination campaign on January 16, 2021, which prioritized certain groups and eventually extended to all citizens over the age of 18 in Mumbai from May 1, 2021. The booster dose of the corona vaccine has been available since January 10, 2022.

The iNCOVACC vaccine is now also available as a booster dose, and citizens are encouraged to register for it through the Municipal Corporation’s Twitter account. The names and addresses of all vaccination centers in the 24 divisions will be provided.

The municipal administration has appealed to all eligible citizens to take this booster dose, which will be given as a nasal vaccine. The iNCOVACC vaccine is expected to provide an extra layer of protection to individuals who have already received the initial two doses of Covishield or Covaxin, which is especially important for people over the age of 60.

This initiative will allow for the distribution of the iNCOVACC vaccine, which was recently approved for emergency use by the Drug Controller General of India.

The nasal vaccine is a quick and convenient method of administering the booster dose, which will help reduce the burden on the healthcare system by reducing hospitalizations and fatalities due to COVID-19.
