Mumbai: MMRDA Extends Tender Submission Date for Orange Gate- Marine Drive Subway Project

Mumbai, 28th April 2023: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has extended the deadline for tender submission for the Orange Gate – East Freeway-Marine Drive Subway project due to a lack of response. Aspirants can now submit their tenders until May 8.

The project aims to provide a solution to the traffic jam problem at Orange Gate, where vehicles going to Nariman Point get stuck. The underpass will connect the East Freeway, Orange Gate, and Marine Drive, making it easy for vehicles coming from Pune, Navi Mumbai, and Thane to reach South Mumbai directly. The three and a half km long project is expected to cost Rs 6,000 crores and will include a separate subway for commuting. The project will also help commuters cover the Orange Gate – Marine Drive distance in just five minutes.

A company has prepared a comprehensive plan for the project, which was approved by the MMRDA, and tenders were issued in February 2023. The tender submission deadline was April 24, but no tenders were submitted. The MMRDA has now extended the deadline for 15 days.

The 16.8 km East Freeway was constructed by the MMRDA in 2013 to facilitate access to South Mumbai from Pune, Navi Mumbai, and Thane, reducing the Chembur – CSMT distance to just 20 to 25 minutes. The Orange Gate-Marine Drive Subway project is expected to begin in June-July 2023, with the target completion date set for 2025.
