Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Dominates 62nd Maharashtra State Amateur Marathi Drama Competition

Mumbai, 10th January 2024: In a commendable achievement, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken top honours in the recently concluded 62nd Maharashtra State Amateur Marathi Drama Competition. The results announced highlighted the remarkable performances of two plays from BMC Mumbai-3 centre.

The play titled ‘Gender An Identity,’ directed by the Joint Chief Labor Officer (Western Suburbs), clinched the coveted first prize. Additionally, the play ‘Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya,’ directed by the Deputy Chief Labor Officer (Eastern Suburbs), secured the third prize. Notably, both plays, ‘Gender an Identity’ and ‘Pudchya Varshi Lavkar Ya,’ were selected for the final round, showcasing the depth of talent within BMC.

A special mention goes to Amit Vaiti, Chief Protocol Officer of BMC, who was awarded a Silver Medal for Outstanding Acting in the play ‘Gender and Identity.’

Minister of Forests of Maharashtra Sudhir Mungantiwar, BMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal, and other prominent figures extended their congratulations to the award-winning plays and artists.

The competition, organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, witnessed 18 drama experiments during its preliminary rounds from December 16, 2023, to January 8, 2024, at Sahitya Sangh Mandir, Girgaon, Mumbai. Examiners Dr. Rajeev Mohol, Bal Bargale, and Gauri Londhe played crucial roles in evaluating the performances.

The comprehensive list of winners includes awards for direction, performances, and contributions in various categories. Rajendra Potdar and Sameer Penkar received awards for directing, while other individuals were recognized for their roles in different dramas.
