Mumbai: Court Cancels Bailable Warrant Against Pragya Thakur in Malegaon Blast Case After Her Appearance

Mumbai, 31st January 2025: A special court on Thursday cancelled the bailable warrant issued against Pragya Singh Thakur, the former BJP MP and one of the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case after she appeared before the court.

Special judge A.K. Lahoti stated, “Accused number 1 is present before the court. The application indicates she was hospitalized and unable to attend. Given this explanation, the bailable warrant is hereby cancelled.”

Thakur had been issued a bailable warrant on November 13, 2024, after failing to appear before the court. Her defence team explained that she was receiving medical treatment in Bhopal. The court had emphasized her presence was required as the final hearing in the case was underway. In December, however, the warrant was temporarily halted after National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers, who went to serve the warrant, informed the court about her hospitalization.

The trial involving Thakur and six other accused continues, with the court currently hearing final arguments. The 2008 Malegaon blast resulted in the deaths of six people in the town near Nashik. The accused face charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, and violations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
