Mumbai Father Arrested After Allegedly Abusing Teenage Daughter for Five Years

Mumbai, 4th October 2024: A 46-year-old man filed a missing person report after his daughter, a teenager, disappeared. However, it was later revealed that he had been allegedly sexually abusing her for five years, prompting her to flee their home in Mumbai to escape the situation, according to police statements released on Thursday.
Authorities took the man into custody on Thursday, charging him under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The 17-year-old girl, distraught from her father’s alleged abuse, left their residence in the Mahalaxmi area of Central Mumbai on Wednesday, police reported.
Unable to locate her, the father approached the Tardeo police station to report that she had been kidnapped. His claims led to the creation of a kidnapping case against an unknown assailant, and a search for the girl was initiated.
During their investigation, a team from the crime branch located the girl at Mahalaxmi station on the Western Railway line. Once taken to a crime branch office, she disclosed harrowing details of the continuous sexual abuse she had endured at the hands of her father, according to police officials.
The teenager informed the police that the alleged abuse had been ongoing for five years.
Following her statements, charges of rape and other offences were formally filed against her father under the BNS and POCSO Act.
After this, a crime branch team led by Police Inspector Sadanand Yerekar commenced efforts to locate the father, successfully identifying and arresting him near the Saat Rasta Circle area, police reported.
After undergoing a medical examination, he was placed in the custody of the Tardeo police for further investigation into the allegations against him, officials added.
