Mumbai: FOCINC West And Veterans Pay Homage To Bravehearts At Gaurav Stambh On Navy Day

Mumbai, 5th December 2022: On the occasion of the Navy Day, Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command laid a wreath at a solemn ceremony at the Gaurav Stambh. A ceremonial guard was paraded to mark the occasion.

 

Gaurav Stambh, a monument at Naval Dockyard (Mumbai), was inaugurated on 04 Dec 2020 to commemorate the ‘Victory at Sea’ and pay tribute to the grit, extraordinary valour, selflessness and fortitude of naval personnel that underscore the finest traditions of the Indian Navy.

 

With an aim to remind future generations of the valour of the bravehearts and pay tribute to their acts of bravery, names of 285 personnel have been inscribed on the walls of the memorial. The names of the valiant personnel include those who participated in liberation of Goa, 1971 Indo-Pak war, anti-terror operations and other acts of bravery in saving life and national assets.

 

Wreaths were also laid by Commodore SN Singh (Retd), a 1971 War Veteran, Lt Cdr Farokh Tarapore (Retd) an Olympian & Asian Gold medalist & senior Flag Officers of WNC. Paying homage to our valiant heroes, the CinC as well as other dignitaries offered shradhanjali by placing flowers against the names of those who have made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.
