Mumbai Initiates Night Food Fairs And Plans State-Of-The-Art Underground Aquarium To Boost Tourism

Mumbai, 7th July 2023: In a bid to preserve its unique food culture and enhance tourism, Mumbai is set to introduce night food fairs in selected areas, allowing residents and visitors to experience the city’s diverse food culture. Furthermore, a proposal has been made to establish a state-of-the-art underground aquarium on a nine-acre area within the Mafatlal mill site in the Rani cha Baug area. An additional aquarium is also planned for the seacoast road, attracting more tourists and marine enthusiasts.

Addressing the media, Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar expressed the government’s commitment to preventing Maharashtrian people from leaving Mumbai by implementing a range of projects and schemes. He stated that substantial funds would be allocated to the MHADA Repair Board, enabling the repair and renovation of old buildings across the city. Additionally, investments would be made to improve amenities such as public toilets and sanitation, ensuring a better quality of life for residents.

Highlighting the city’s cultural diversity, Kesarkar highlights the importance of promoting local food cultures, such as Malvani and Koli food cultures, among Mumbaikars and tourists alike. Consequently, funding has been allocated for the development of several locations in Worli, Mahim, and Kolaba Koliwada, creating fish-drying areas where visitors can enjoy local food dishes and their delicacies.

Notably, an innovative underground aquarium will be constructed in the Rani cha Baug area, serving as a unique attraction for both locals and international tourists. Kesarkar emphasised that efforts were underway to draft a comprehensive proposal with the objective of positioning Mumbai on the global tourism map.

The City District Planning Board recently held a meeting to discuss various crucial matters, resulting in the allocation of a significant sum of Rs 360 crore. These funds will be instrumental in implementing the aforementioned initiatives and giving a significant boost to tourism in the city.
