Mumbai: IPS Officer Krishna Prakash Becomes First Person to Complete Reverse Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves Swim

Mumbai, 26th March 2023: Special IG, Krishna Prakash, has successfully completed the unprecedented swim from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves, becoming the first person worldwide to achieve this feat. The daring swim covered a distance of 16.20 kms against strong waves in a challenging 5 hrs 26 minutes. This expedition was dedicated to raising awareness about drowning prevention.

The IPS officer took on this challenge contrary to the popular swimming route from Elephanta Caves to Gateway of India. The current is relatively smoother in the former, making it an easier and more popular route among professional swimmers. However, IG Prakash chose to take the reverse route and swim against the tide, marking this feat as one of its kind.

Talking about the significance of this expedition, Krishna Prakash said, “My adventure swimming is to inspire young Indians to try their best to bag Olympic medals, especially in the 10k open water swimming category. It is also to raise awareness about drowning prevention and the importance of knowing swimming.”

This swim is a testament to his exceptional swimming skills, fitness, and determination. His achievement has inspired many to take up swimming and work towards their goals.
