Mumbai, 14th March 2023: A court has ordered a person to be sent to jail for indecent behaviour and smoking on an Air India flight. The accused has refused to pay Rs 25,000 for bail in this case. The accused said that he had googled and found that the fine payable under the IPC section was Rs.250. For this, he will not pay Rs.25,000
Earlier, the court had granted cash bail to accused Ratnakar Dwivedi, but he refused to pay the amount and told the court on March 13 that he was ready to go to jail. The accused was caught smoking and had unruly behaviour in the bathroom of Air India’s London-Mumbai flight on March 10. He was booked under Indian Penal Code section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).
The accused told the court that he had read online that the fine payable under section 336 of the IPC was Rs 250, which he was ready to pay, but would not pay the surety amount of Rs 25,000. After this, the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate ordered the accused to be sent to jail on 13 March. According to the Mumbai Police, the accused had created disturbances in the flight and endangered the lives of all the passengers.
