Mumbai: Metro 2A And 7 Awaiting Safety Certificate To Initiate

Mumbai, 26th December 2022: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced that the second phase of Metro 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar) and Metro 7 (Dahisar to Andheri) will be launched in January. But for the second phase, the safety certificate from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is still awaited. CMRS has been conducting tests for the past few days. But Mumbaikars are waiting to know when they will get the certificate and when the second phase will start.

A total 20 km stretch of Metro 2A and 7, from Dahisar to Aarey, was commissioned in April. Now the second phase of both these routes is waiting to be put into service. The second phase of Metro 2A from Dahanukarwadi to DN Nagar and Metro 7 from Aarey to Andheri East was expected to start in August. But this has been delayed. The MMRDA has announced that it will initiate the second phase in January 2023. Accordingly, even though January has dawned, the safety certificate for the second phase has not yet been received. The second phase of the metro can be put into service only after receiving the safety certificate.

So MMRDA is now only waiting for this certificate. With the completion of all the work in the second phase, it will be possible for MMRDA to commission the second phase once this certificate is received. When asked about this, a senior official of MMRDA said that the trials are going on, the safety certificate will be obtained, and the second phase will be put into service.
