Mumbai: No Entry For People In BMC Headquarters On May 23, Tuesday

Mumbai, 22nd May 2023: On Tuesday, May 23, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will implement a ban on the entry of outsiders at the municipal headquarters. This measure is being taken in preparation for the visit of a delegation from the G20 Council’s Disaster Mitigation Working Group.

The delegation will be visiting the BMC headquarters on May 23, and in order to ensure the security of all members, visitors will not be permitted to enter the premises after 11 am.

The G20 Council’s Disaster Mitigation Working Group is convening its second meeting in Mumbai from May 23 to 25, 2023. As part of their visit, the delegation will be touring the Disaster Management Room at the BMC headquarters to gain insights into the emergency management operations of the Municipal Corporation. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to partake in a heritage walk of the headquarters. Due to the presence of highly important individuals within the G20 delegation, the municipal administration has decided to restrict visitor access to the headquarters after 11 am on May 23, 2023, to ensure the security arrangements are maintained. The regular office hours for the headquarters are from 9:45 am to 11 am, and entry will not be allowed beyond that time.

This year, India holds the presidency of the G20 group of countries. As part of its responsibilities, the country is hosting meetings of various G20 working groups in different cities to discuss a range of topics. The G20 Working Group on ‘Emergency Risk Mitigation’ will be convening in Mumbai from May 23 to May 25, 2023. Over 120 delegates from the 20 member countries of the G20 Council will be participating in this meeting. On May 23, the delegates will visit the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters in the evening. In light of this visit, the police have devised stringent security measures.

During their visit to the Emergency Management Department, the delegation members will have the opportunity to study the department’s various activities, measures, equipment, and the functioning of the control room.

Following that, the delegation will embark on a heritage walk of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters building, which will provide them with insights into the building’s rich history. This visit, which is expected to last approximately two hours, will include a welcome ceremony organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, as stated by Mahesh Narvekar, the Director of the Disaster Management Department.
