Mumbai: Protest Unfolds at IIT Bombay: Activists Accuse Institute of Supporting Terrorism

Mumbai, 11th November 2023: Bombay Vivek Vichar Mancha staged a protest today at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, accusing the institute of supporting terrorists. Activists participated in a sit-in demonstration outside the IIT building, alleging that a recent program organized by Professor Shamishta Shah endorsed extremism and terrorist activities.

A few days ago, Vivek Vichar Manch claimed that the program, which included a documentary screening, was in support of the brutality of Hamas. The protesters demanded action against those allegedly supporting terrorists and called for a thorough examination of the phone records of the individuals involved.

In their statement to the police, the organization demanded the registration of a case against Professor Shamishta Shah and Sudhanwa Deshpande. The activists accused Professor Shah of misusing her position and authority by inviting Sudhanwa Deshpande to IIT Mumbai on November 6.

The activists further claimed that Sudhanwa Deshpande had threatened the academic integrity of IIT Mumbai by glorifying Palestinian terrorist Zakaria Zubedi during the mentioned program. The protest highlights the contentious atmosphere surrounding the event and raises questions about academic freedom and expression within educational institutions.
