Mumbai: Railway Board Hikes Compensation Payment For Victims Of Railway Accidents

Mumbai, 21st September 2023: The Railway Board has increased the compensation amount given to the heirs and kin of the person who was killed and injured in the railway accident. The Railway Board issued instructions in this regard on September 18. According to the new compensation scale, the Railway Board has decided to increase the compensation amount tenfold compared to earlier ones.

Before this notification, the railway board, according to its earlier notification in 2012, was paying Rs 50,000 as compensation to the heirs and relatives of a person who was killed in the railway accident. Now, according to the new notification, the railway board has increased this amount to 5 lakh rupees.

Similarly, earlier, the Railway Board was giving 25 thousand rupees to relatives if a person was injured and 5 thousand rupees for minor injuries. This amount has also been revised, and according to the new compensation scale, this amount has increased to 2.5 lakh and 50 thousand rupees, respectively.

In the earlier system, the family members of the person who was killed and injured in the railway accident had to manage household expenses with meagre financial compensation. Furthermore, they often had to visit the railway office for their compensation. Nevertheless, the recent increase in compensation will provide some solace to the grieving relatives of those who lost their lives and were injured in the railway accident.

The Railway Board has given instructions in this regard to all the General Managers of Indian Railways on September 18.
