Mumbai: Special Court Sentences Man For Eve-Teasing Minor Girl

Mumbai, 19th February 2023: In the case of molesting a minor girl, the Didoshi sessions court in Mumbai has sentenced the accused on the charge of sexual harassment. The court termed the act of restraining a girl and saying ‘aja aja (come)’ without her consent sexual harassment. The accused has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO). Due to this decision given by the court, this matter has come into the limelight.

This case started in 2015. The victim was 15 years old then. She told the court that while in school, she had taken outside tuition to learn French. The accused used to follow her while going for tuition. Sometimes he would take the bicycle and say ‘Aja Aja’ to tease her.

After a few days, as the accused grew bolder, his actions intensified. One day, scared, she told some men standing on the street about the accused and sought their help. The mob tried to catch the accused. But he fled from there, riding a bicycle at high speed. She told her parents and tutor about the whole incident. She learned that the accused was working as a watchman in a nearby building. Later, she went to the police station with his mother and lodged a complaint.

In September 2015, the accused was found and put in police custody. He apologized before the court, saying he was the sole breadwinner at home with his wife and three-year-old son. He was granted bail in 2016.
