Mumbai Suburban Rail Services to Face Disruptions on Sunday Due to Mega and Jumbo Blocks
Mumbai, 14th March 2026: Commuters travelling on Mumbai’s suburban railway network may experience disruptions on Sunday as both Central Railway and Western Railway have scheduled major maintenance blocks across key corridors. Railway authorities have urged passengers to check revised timetables before travelling, as several local services will remain cancelled, short-terminated, or diverted during the block periods.
Central Railway will carry out a mega block on the Mumbai Suburban Railway Trans-Harbour Line between Thane and Vashi / Nerul on Sunday.
-Block timing: 11:10 am to 4:10 pm
-Impact: All up and down Trans-Harbour local train services between Thane and Vashi/Nerul will remain completely suspended during the block period.
In addition, local trains leaving Thane for Vashi, Nerul, and Panvel will remain cancelled between 10:35 am and 4:07 pm. Similarly, some services running from Panvel, Nerul and Vashi towards Thane will also be cancelled between 10:25 am and 4:09 pm.
Meanwhile, Western Railway will implement a jumbo block near Prabhadevi station to facilitate construction work related to a road overbridge girder.
-Block timing: 1:30 am to 6:00 am
During this period, several suburban trains will remain cancelled while some services will short-terminate at Dadar and Bandra. Local train movement will also be temporarily affected on sections between Churchgate, Prabhadevi, Matunga Road and Mahim.
Railway authorities said a few long-distance train schedules have also been revised due to the engineering work.
Apart from the suburban maintenance blocks, Central Railway will also carry out a special traffic and power block between Thane and Dombivli from midnight on Saturday until 10:00 am on Sunday.
The work is part of an infrastructure upgrade that includes the extension of platforms 3 and 4 at Thane station and platforms 1A, 1 and 2 at Dombivli station. For the project, a block will be imposed on the Mulund–Thane and Diva–Dombivli sections, excluding the crossover.
During the block period:
-Several slow local services on both up and down lines will be cancelled.
-Some trains will be diverted to the fast corridor.
Railway officials have appealed to commuters to plan their journeys in advance and check updated train schedules to avoid inconvenience during the maintenance work.
