Mumbai Witnesses Surge in Air-Conditioned Local Train Travel as Passengers Seek Respite from Summer Heat
Mumbai, 28th May 2023: With the scorching heat becoming unbearable, an increasing number of travelers are opting for air-conditioned local trains. The Central Railway has recorded a significant rise in the number of passengers choosing air-conditioned locales, with approximately 13 to 15 lakh passengers traveling in these trains each month.
Since January 1, a staggering 72 lakh passengers have availed themselves of the air-conditioned local train service, generating an impressive revenue of approximately Rs 32.72 crores.
Currently, 56 air-conditioned local trains are operational on the Central Railway, accommodating around 50 thousand passengers daily. The reduction in ticket fares for air-conditioned locales introduced a year ago has made it more economical for passengers to travel on these trains, thus contributing to their popularity. Particularly during the summer season, there has been a noticeable increase in the rush of passengers.
Consequently, since March, over 1.5 lakh passengers have been availing themselves of the air-conditioned local train service every month.
The anticipated number of passengers for the period between 1st May 2023 and 31st May 2023 is 16 lakhs, and the revenue generated is expected to reach Rs. 7.5 crores. With an average of 60,000 passengers per day, the air-conditioned local trains continue to provide much-needed relief to commuters from the sweltering heat.
