Narrow Escape for Passengers as Navi Mumbai Bus Catches Fire, No Injuries Reported
Navi Mumbai, 9th January 2025: On Thursday morning, passengers on a civic transport bus in Navi Mumbai narrowly escaped injury when the vehicle caught fire, police reported.
The bus, belonging to Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), was carrying 22 passengers at the time of the incident. All passengers were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
The fire broke out at Runwal Chowk, located within Manpada limits on Kalyan-Shilphata Road, around 10:30 a.m. The driver immediately stopped the bus upon noticing the flames and instructed passengers to exit the vehicle. The driver then managed to escape safely.
To prevent further danger, the police halted traffic on both sides of the road. Authorities, with the help of a water tanker, managed to put out the fire within 30 minutes, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat.
Once the fire was extinguished, a crane was used to remove the charred bus from the road, allowing traffic to resume.
Shirsat confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated and that traffic had been restored. Special precautions were also taken to ensure the safety of vehicles carrying flammable substances passing through the area.
The passengers continued their journeys by private vehicles and auto-rickshaws.
