Mumbai Weather: Temperatures Climb as Coldwave Subsides, IMD Forecasts Rise to 23°C

Mumbai, 9th January 2025: After a brief coldwave, temperatures in Mumbai rose on Wednesday. The Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 19°C and a maximum of 33°C, while Colaba saw temperatures ranging from 21.6°C to 30.6°C. On Tuesday, the mercury in the city had dropped to 15.2°C, making it one of the coolest January mornings.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the recent weather changes are due to disturbed and strong westerly winds. These winds are expected to push temperatures higher in the coming days. IMD forecasts a rise in the minimum temperature to 23°C on January 10, with the maximum remaining around 32-33°C. The city is likely to experience hazy skies in the mornings, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoons for the next 48 hours.

Mumbaikars began their week with a chill, as unexpected drizzles on Sunday night brought a refreshing cool breeze. The weather also affected other parts of Maharashtra, with light rainfall reported in some regions. The IMD’s Regional Weather forecast indicates that light rain is expected in isolated areas of North Konkan and North Central Maharashtra on January 10. Meanwhile, South Konkan and Marathwada will experience partly cloudy conditions.

With cooler temperatures and reduced moisture, Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘Moderate’ category on Wednesday. However, the Shivaji Nagar (Deonar) area recorded the city’s poorest AQI at 255. Other areas with relatively poor air quality included Malad West (182), Sewri (162), Byculla (150), Mazagon (168), Colaba (156), BKC (130), and Sion (139).
