Navi Mumbai Bus Catches Fire, Passengers Escape Unharmed In Manpada
Navi Mumbai, 10th January 2025: Passengers had a narrow escape when a bus operated by Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) caught fire in the Manpada area of Navi Mumbai on Thursday morning, causing a temporary traffic jam, police said.
The incident occurred around 10:30 am near Runwal Chowk on Kalyan-Shilphata Road. Upon noticing the fire, the bus driver quickly stopped the vehicle and instructed passengers to evacuate before jumping out himself, a police official reported.
Traffic was immediately halted on both sides of the road to prevent further complications. Police, assisted by a water tanker, successfully extinguished the fire within half an hour, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Pankaj Shirsat.
Once the fire was under control, a crane was used to remove the damaged bus, clearing the road and allowing traffic to resume, Shirsat added.
The traffic police ensured the safe evacuation of passengers, and with the fire out, traffic returned to normal. To further ensure safety, additional precautions were taken for vehicles carrying flammable materials passing through the area.
The passengers continued their journey using auto-rickshaws and private vehicles.
