Navi Mumbai, 17th June 2024: Uran police apprehended a man for the abduction and molestation of a nine-year-old girl while she was heading home with her father and brother on Tuesday. The man in question, identified as Rajendra Gondhali, a 35-year-old resident of Bamandongri, had a history of criminal behaviour and had previously faced charges related to a comparable offence by the NRI Coastal police.

The incident occurred when the victim, along with her brother and father, had been to a hill in Chirner. Upon descending and proceeding towards their residence around 8:30 pm, the girl fell behind due to her foot getting stuck in the mud. Unaware of her absence, her father and brother continued walking ahead. Gondhali, seizing the opportunity, attempted to abduct her, but she raised an alarm, attracting the attention of a passerby and causing Gondhali to flee.

Senior police inspector Rajendra Kote, from the Uran police station, explained that through the examination of CCTV footage depicting the suspect entering a restaurant, followed by footage from within which revealed his face, they were able to identify him with the help of informants and eventually apprehend him in Bamandongri.

The authorities highlighted that the accused, Rajendra Gondhali, was a repeat offender with a prior record of a related offence with the NRI Coastal police.
