Navi Mumbai Police Capture One Suspect in Kharghar Road Rage Case, Hunt for Accomplice Continues

Navi Mumbai, 11th February 2025: After a week-long investigation into the Kharghar road rage case, Navi Mumbai police have apprehended one of the two suspects involved in the incident.

The arrested individual has been identified as 20-year-old Rehan Shaikh, while his accomplice, Faizan Shaikh, also 20, remains on the run. Both, hailing from Nagpada and Agripada respectively, were traced to BKC, where authorities managed to capture Rehan, while Faizan evaded arrest. The two worked as delivery personnel. Rehan, the pillion rider, has been taken into custody, whereas the individual who carried out the fatal attack is still at large.

The case revolves around the tragic death of 45-year-old IT professional Shivkumar Roshanlal Sharma, who lost his life on February 3 at approximately 8:30 pm following an altercation over overtaking.

According to investigators, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts revealed that Sharma had overtaken the accused twice, and during one of the instances, allegedly spat in their direction, provoking their anger. The confrontation escalated between Belpada and Utsav Chowk, where both parties stopped and engaged in an argument. During the altercation, Sharma reportedly kicked one of the suspects, prompting them to retaliate by striking him multiple times on the head with a helmet.

Despite not displaying any visible injuries, Sharma managed to ride his bike to the Kharghar police station, where he reported the assault and provided officers with video evidence of the attack. However, moments later, he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately transported to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Unaware of Sharma’s demise, the accused reportedly proceeded to attend the religious gathering, Ijetama, in Kharghar before returning to their respective homes by 10:30 pm.

Following Rehan Shaikh’s arrest, Navi Mumbai’s crime branch has handed him over to the Kharghar police. Authorities remain confident that the second suspect will be apprehended soon.
