Panvel Exit on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Closed for Six Months Amid Flyover Construction

Mumbai, 10th February 2025: From Tuesday, vehicles will be prohibited from using the Panvel exit on the Mumbai-bound lane of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway for the next six months, as per the Navi Mumbai traffic police.

To regulate traffic flow, the Kalamboli unit of Navi Mumbai traffic police has outlined alternative routes. The restriction is being implemented due to the ongoing construction of a flyover and underpass at Kalamboli Circle by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakde, who issued the directive.

This measure affects vehicles travelling towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT via Kalamboli Circle, as well as those heading to Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata.

Motorists on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway heading toward Panvel, Goa, and JNPT will now be rerouted 9.6 km before the Panvel exit at Kon Phata. From there, they must take a left turn to reach Palaspe Circle and merge onto National Highway 48 (Delhi-Chennai Highway) to continue their journey.

“For vehicles coming from Pune towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata, the route will be diverted but will remain accessible,” Kakde added.

Instead of using the Panvel exit, these vehicles will exit the expressway at Kalamboli and proceed along the Sion-Panvel Highway. They will then take a right turn beneath the flyover near Purusharth Petrol Pump to reach Roadpali and continue toward NH-48.

However, those travelling from Pune to access the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu, will not be impacted. These vehicles will be rerouted through the service road at Kon Phata without additional detours.

The ongoing construction at Kalamboli Circle is expected to ease congestion in the future. Once completed, the new flyover and underpass will help streamline traffic movement toward Panvel, JNPT, and Goa by eliminating multiple traffic signals, ultimately improving travel efficiency in the region.
