Passenger Experiences Bizarre Confinement in Lavatory During Mumbai-Bengaluru Flight

Mumbai, 17th January 2024: A male passenger aboard SpiceJet flight SG-268 from Mumbai to Bengaluru found himself trapped inside the aircraft’s lavatory for an unexpectedly long duration of nearly 100 minutes due to a malfunction of the door lock. The incident unfolded during the early hours of Tuesday, concluding with engineers having to break open the lavatory door upon landing at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru.

The passenger, seated in 14D, entered the aircraft’s toilet shortly after takeoff when the seatbelt signs were turned off. Unfortunately, a malfunction in the lavatory door’s lock left him confined for an extended period, including the entire landing phase, causing significant distress.

Flight SG-268, originally scheduled to depart from Mumbai at 10.55 pm on Monday, encountered this unusual incident during its journey. The affected passenger’s identity and specific details have not been immediately disclosed. SpiceJet has not yet issued an official comment on the matter.

Distress calls from the confined passenger prompted the flight crew to respond, attempting to open the door from the outside. However, due to the malfunction, their efforts proved unsuccessful. The passenger unwittingly travelled from Mumbai to Bengaluru while confined within the lavatory, adding a bizarre and unexpected twist to his journey.

The circumstances leading to the malfunction of the lavatory door are currently under investigation. SpiceJet is expected to conduct a thorough examination to determine the cause and take necessary corrective measures. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and functionality of onboard facilities, prompting authorities to address any potential issues promptly.
