Pune: Fatal Incident at Yewale Tea: Talawade Shop Owner Faces Charges After Child Worker’s Electrocution

Talawade, 12th March 2024: In an incident at Yewale Tea in Talawade on Monday (11), a 17-year-old child worker lost his life due to electrocution. The operator of Yewale Tea, Ganesh Jagtap of Talawade, is now facing legal action as a case has been filed against him. The complaint was lodged by Premkumar Siddharam Bansode, a 43-year-old resident of Nigdi, and the father of the victim at the Chikhali Police Station.

The police report indicates that the accused knowingly hired a 17-year-old boy and was aware of the electrical hazard posed by the shop’s refrigerator. No safety measures were implemented for the workers. On the fateful Monday, the complainant’s son was instructed to climb on the fridge to retrieve tea cups, resulting in fatal electrocution.

The accused is now under investigation for violating the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016, both for illegally employing a minor child and neglecting the safety of the workers.
