Pune: Thieves Target Couple En Route to Land Purchase in Kharadi, Steal Eight Lakhs in Cash

Kharadi, 12th March 2024: In the Kharadi area, an unfortunate incident unfolded as thieves targeted a couple who were on their way to purchase land, resulting in the theft of a bag containing eight lakhs in cash. The Chandan Nagar police have initiated legal proceedings against the two-wheeler thieves involved in this case, following a complaint filed by Suresh Namdev Khankal, a 45-year-old resident of Dehu Road and an employee at a hospital near Pune station.

The Khankal couple, en route to buy land, had withdrawn a substantial sum of eight lakhs and 16 thousand rupees from the bank for the intended transaction. Carrying the money in a bag, they embarked on their journey from Kharadi Bypass Chowk on Nagar Road to Keshav Nagar on a two-wheeler on a Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, thieves were tracking their movements.

The theft occurred in the vicinity of the RK beer shop, where the thieves, on a two-wheeler, swiftly seized the bag containing cash from the Khankal couple. The culprits fled towards the Mundhwa side. The stolen bag included eight lakhs 16 thousand rupees in cash, along with an Aadhaar card and a chequebook. Upon receiving information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Magar, Assistant Commissioner Sanjay Patil, and Police Inspector Manisha Patil promptly reached the scene. Police efforts are focused on locating the fleeing thieves, and Sub-Inspector Tanaji Shegar is leading the investigation into the matter.
