Rave Party in Thane Organized as Tribute to Foreign ‘Baba,’ Investigations Reveal

Thane, 2nd January 2024: An investigation into the recent rave party organized on the eve of New Year’s Eve in the Kasarvadavali area of Thane has uncovered intriguing details. Authorities found that the gathering, initially believed to be a festive celebration, was organized to pay respects to a foreign ‘Baba’ who had recently passed away. The revellers, mainly youths from the IT sector and call centres, used coded language on social media posts to communicate details about the event.

The Thane Crime Branch, led by Senior Police Inspector Vikas Ghodke and Assistant Police Inspector Bhushan Shinde, conducted a raid at the secluded spot on the shores of Thane Bay, disrupting the rave party. Two individuals, Tejas Kubal and Sujal Mahajan, were arrested during the operation, while 95 people were detained.

Investigations revealed that the organizers and attendees used code words and images in their social media posts to conceal the true nature of the event. The posts contained words and pictures related to a Baba who had recently come to Goa from abroad and had passed away. The party was organized as a tribute to him.

Posts on platforms like Instagram featured images of tigers, snakes, and jungles, serving as symbolic references. For instance, the presence of a forest image in the post misled participants into thinking that the party was organized in a forested area. The use of specific words and photographs acted as signals known primarily to drug users, jukebox players, and traffickers.

While Tejas Kubal and Sujal Mahajan were arrested during the raid, investigations have revealed the involvement of additional organizers who were responsible for sharing information about the party on Instagram. The authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend these individuals.

Sources suggest that drug traffickers often use fake words and photographs to communicate details about such events covertly.
