Thane Municipal Corporation Extends Abhay Yojana Deadline for Property Tax Arrears Recovery

Thane, 2nd January 2024: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has extended the deadline for the Abhay Yojana, an initiative implemented in the last fortnight of December to recover property tax arrears. Despite successfully recovering Rs 34 crore 48 lakhs in the past fifteen days under the Abhay Yojana, TMC still faces the challenge of recovering an outstanding amount of Rs 146 crore 46 lakhs out of the total arrears of Rs 248 crores.

Out of the expected property tax property of Rs 792 crores in this year’s budget, TMC has recovered Rs 471 crore 67 lakh so far. The administration is determined to achieve the remaining target and is challenged with collecting property tax amounting to Rs 320 crores 33 lakhs in the next three months.

To boost recovery efforts, TMC has extended the Abhay Yojana until January 15. Taxpayers who deposit arrears as well as the current year’s property tax at the consolidated TMC will receive a 100% waiver on penalties associated with their property tax arrears. The initial Abhay Yojana was announced from December 15 to December 31, and the positive response from citizens prompted the extension.

Collection centres have been established in all ward offices of TMC for convenient property tax payments. These centres operate on office working days, public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays, offering flexibility to taxpayers. Online payment options are also available on the Municipal Corporation’s website http://www.thanecity.gov.in. Additionally, taxpayers can use platforms like Google Pay, Phone Pay, Paytm, and the BHIM app for online property tax payments.
