Sex Racket Busted in Navi Mumbai: Two Bangladesh Nationals Arrested, Minor Rescued

Navi Mumbai, 18th February 2024: Mumbai police apprehended two individuals from Bangladesh on charges of operating a sex racket in the Taloja area of Navi Mumbai today. The arrest followed a raid conducted on a residential society flat on Saturday, acting on a tip-off regarding illicit activities in the area, as confirmed by a decoy, Sub Inspector Suresh Kurhade of Taloja Police Station stated.

The accused, identified as Samon Shaikh and Mohinoor Mandal, were taken into custody during the operation. Additionally, a 14-year-old girl from Bangladesh was rescued from the premises. A case has been registered under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act in connection with the sex racket.

In a separate incident, two police officers and six others are facing accusations of conspiring to extort money from a first-year engineering student in Pune. The alleged conspiracy involved threatening the student with false drug charges, leading to the extortion of ₹4.98 lakh from the 19-year-old victim. The incident occurred at Pune’s Symbiosis College, where some of the conspirators were reportedly acquainted with the victim. One of the accused is said to have planted a packet of drugs in the victim’s pocket at a hotel, subsequently informing the involved police officers about the fabricated situation.
