Thane: Mass Transfer of Mumbra Traffic Police: 40 Personnel Moved Amid Bribery Scandal
Mumbra, 18th February 2024: In response to a widely circulated video depicting traffic police personnel allegedly accepting bribes from motorists in Mumbra, Thane, a significant reshuffling has taken place. On Sunday, it was reported that forty traffic policemen from the Mumbra division were transferred en masse. The affected personnel include Senior Inspector Suresh Khedekar and two Assistant Sub Inspectors, along with several constables.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Vijaykumar Rathod, issued the transfer orders on Saturday, relocating the implicated personnel to the control room. The video, which went viral, captured traffic police receiving money from drivers of heavy vehicles navigating the congested Mumbra stretch, a crucial arterial route leading into Mumbai.
