Thane, Palghar, and Raigad Brace for Varying Patterns Following Mumbai’s Rainfall
Navi Mumbai, 14th May 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted hot and humid conditions in isolated areas of Mumbai on May 14, following the city’s first rain of the season after a sweeping dust storm and subsequent thunder and rainfall.
While Mumbai braces for potential thunderstorms, nearby regions like Thane, Palghar, and Raigad (Navi Mumbai) may also experience varying weather patterns, according to IMD. Thane could encounter isolated heat waves alongside the possibility of rain or thundershowers later in the day. Palghar might see isolated heat waves with a chance of evening rain or thundershowers. In Raigad (Navi Mumbai), thunderstorms coupled with lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph) are anticipated in isolated areas.
In the aftermath of the dust storm and rainfall on May 13, Mumbai faced a tragic incident as a 100-foot-tall unauthorized billboard collapsed at a petrol pump in Ghatkopar, claiming the lives of 14 individuals and injuring 74 others. Search and rescue efforts were underway at the affected petrol pump on Tuesday morning, as confirmed by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials. The installation of the billboard was deemed illegal, lacking necessary permissions, as stated by civic authorities.
Late Monday evening, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the site of the incident and mandated a comprehensive structural audit of all billboards across the city. “Any hoardings found to be illegal and hazardous will be promptly removed,” he assured.
