Thane Police Nab Duo Linked to 15 Chain-Snatching Incidents Across MMR

Thane, 19th April 2025: Two individuals have been taken into custody for their suspected role in multiple chain-snatching incidents across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, according to a senior official from the Thane police.
The accused, identified as Jaffar Yusuf Jaffri alias Chavan (26) and Sandeep Girishchandra Prasad (20), both residents of Ambivali, are reportedly affiliated with the notorious ‘Irani’ gang. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V), Prashant Kadam, stated during a press briefing that the suspects are linked to criminal cases registered in Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mumbai.
The arrests were made by a team from the Vartak Nagar police station. The suspects had allegedly snatched a gold chain from a 56-year-old woman in Yashodhan Nagar on March 12 and escaped on a motorcycle. Following the incident, dedicated police teams were formed to track down and apprehend the culprits.
Authorities recovered stolen items including gold jewelry valued at ₹3.90 lakh, two motorcycles worth ₹1.20 lakh, and mobile phones worth ₹15,000.
Senior Inspector Rajkumar Wakchoure of Vartak Nagar police station confirmed that seven cases have been resolved with these arrests. Additionally, the duo has reportedly confessed to their involvement in eight more similar crimes.
