Thane to Welcome International-Standard Botanical Garden and Zoo, Approved by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde

Thane, 13th July 2024: Thane, a bustling city neighbouring Mumbai, is set to establish an international-standard botanical garden and zoo, aimed at drawing a significant number of tourists. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, an MLA from Thane city, approved the proposal in a meeting attended by MLA Pratap Sarnaik.

The botanical park and zoo are planned to be located in Kasarvadavali, along Ghodbunder Road, a strategic area connecting Thane to major hubs in the Mumbai metropolitan region. “The chief minister has given the green light for a zoo in Thane city,” confirmed Sarnaik.

Maharashtra already boasts several notable zoos, including the Veer Mata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden & Zoo (Byculla Zoo) in Mumbai, Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park in Nagpur, Siddharth Garden and Zoo in Aurangabad, Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Pune, Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali (which includes a tiger and lion safari), Nisargakavi Bahinabai Chaudhary Pranisangrahalaya in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharaj Baug Zoo in Nagpur, and Maharaja Shahaji Chhatrapati Zoo in Kolhapur.

The addition of Thane’s second zoo in the Mumbai metropolitan region, following Rani Baug, is expected to significantly enhance visitor footfall and tourism in the area.
