Mumbai, 25th June 2023: In yet another distressing incident of a building collapse in Mumbai, a 70-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman lost their lives, while two other individuals sustained injuries when a portion of a balcony collapsed, plummeting down upon them on Sunday (June 25).
The distressing incident occurred on St. Braz Road, near Nanavati Hospital, at approximately 2:27 p.m. The victims have been identified as Priscila Misquita (65) and Robbie Misquita (70), who tragically succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at Cooper Hospital. The injured individuals were promptly rushed to receive medical attention.
“They were declared dead on arrival at Cooper Hospital. Two people have been injured. A part of the balcony on the first floor of a ground-plus-two-floor building collapsed,” the fire brigade official said. He further added that two fire engines, one quick response vehicle, an ambulance, as well as police and civic staff, were deployed for the rescue operation.
According to eyewitnesses, the calamity unfolded amidst heavy rainfall that had engulfed certain parts of Mumbai, including Vile Parle, since the previous evening. Reportedly, residents of the ill-fated building had gathered on the balcony to witness a passing band procession, which was part of the Catholic Feast celebrations taking place on Sunday. It was during this time that the balcony on the first floor as well as the second floor of the ground-plus-two storey building suddenly collapsed on the residents.
Earlier, on the same day, a portion of a three-story building in Ghatkopar’s Rajawadi Colony crumbled on Sunday morning.
